Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve
Paradise One is Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve
One of my favourite places is Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve (NNR) is a wonderful place to visit and while away the hours. Tentsmuir NNR consists of Tentsmuir Point & Abertay Sandbar, Tayport Heath and Morton Lochs.
They are the perfect places to relax, get away from it all and unwind, in the peace and quiet of the sand dunes of Tentsmuir Point or the rolling heath of Tayport Heath or at the tranquil woodlands and loch side of Morton Lochs.
I am the Reserve Manager for the site and have been in "Paradise" for the last eleven years, not a bad place to work! I love all the special places of the Reserve and all the wonderful wildlife you can see and find at all times of the year.
Let me know what you think of MY Paradise, OUR Paradise, maybe it's your Paradise as well. Maybe you have a poem about the site or write how you felt when you visited any part of the Reserve.
The images so far are by my colleagues Lorne Gill & Alex Easson, Paul Cunningham, myself and the wonderful aerial images are by Ken Barry Photography.
The sand dune system of Tentsmuir Point are unique, stand on the Great Slack and take a look from the concrete tank traps laid down in 1940 and see where this place has grown seaward in 68 years! Then stand alongside the WWII Green Hut and see how much has been lost!
Walk around Morton Lochs and step on a relic sand dune system, where the sea rolled in everyday some 2000 years ago. This peaceful haven entraps you. Look out for the elusive otter, the blue flash of the kingfisher, is there a red squirrel looking at you?
Surrounded by Forest, these three sites like hidden gems are just wonderful treasures in north-east Fife. Enjoy.
